Husnaa is a fashionable cultural accessories brand, most known for its unique kain tenunan inspired clutch bags and exclusive line of handmade songkok. Established in 2017, the company behind the brand, Koleksi Husnaa, is a family-run business that spun off Ridah Handicrafts, one of Brunei’s leading suppliers of traditional handicraft products.
Hand-made luxury
The kain tenunan enjoys a long-standing stature as an heirloom and prized fashion collectable in the Brunei Malay household. The textile is donned almost exclusively during culturally significant occasions which adds to its prestige.
To preserve the inimitable softness, characteristic motifs and enduring quality of the Bruneian kain tenunan, each piece is meticulously handwoven by expert crafters. This process takes months, depending on the design and degree of customisation.
Ridah Handicraft, an advocate of the Bruneian tradition and culture, wished for more people to enjoy the exquisite heritage. It meant making the usually expensive kain tenunan more attainable. What’s more, increasing the popularity of the kain tenunan would support the livelihood of local, mostly home-based weavers. And thus, Koleksi Husnaa was born.
Ethnic fashion
By applying the kain tenunan onto fashion accessories and homewares, Koleksi Husnaa brings a coveted luxurious item into the mainstream, making it accessible and fitting for more frequent use.
The famed Tenunan Clutch Bag is a vanguard for the Husnaa brand. In the same way that every piece of kain tenunan is made distinctive by the choice of its colour, design and the maker’s signature style, every Husnaa clutch bag has its own story.
Husnaa starts by curating kain tenunan pieces before cutting out custom patterns from them. These are then put together with other quality elements to form a clutch bag that is absolutely a one-and-only.
The Husnaa range includes charming accessories and homewares that make delightful and memorable gifts. Among them are tenunan coin bags, tissue purses, frames, mini dastar (a ceremonial Malay headgear) and decorative flowers.
Husnaa also provides songkoks, the traditional headgear for Muslim Malay men. Reputed for their workmanship and sturdiness, Husnaa’s songkoks retain their elegance over time.
For the love of art and culture
Best known in its home country, Husnaa nonetheless has a loyal following in Japan, Malaysia and Europe. The brand continues to expand its online capabilities to cater for a local and international clientele.
